The end of the year is nigh and it’s time to reflect on what was offered to the gaming community this past year. This article shall showcase the top 6 platformer games that were released in 2020.
The platform genre is possibly one of the oldest genre for video games and noticeably a genre that is associated with many gamers’s childhood. To this day the genre has been able to adapt with the times and remain fresh. Not only being able to adapt visually but to also reach into new horizons by transitioning into 3D and even merging with other genres.
It’s only appropriate to highlight some of the best games to be released within one of the best genres of gaming. However, I’d like to note that this list isn’t in any particular order or preference.

Ori and The Will of The Wisps
The highly anticipated sequel to the absolutely stunning Ori and The Blind Forest platformer. Released in March 2020 for the Xbox platforms as well as the Nintendo Switch. Many gamers will consider this particular title as platformer of the year, and it’s easy to see why.
With high review scores from many outlets and fans alike, it’s worth noting whether another Ori will be made. It is unlikely as the development team wishes to pursue other projects but fans remain hopeful.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time
Speaking of waiting for another title in a series, the beloved bandicoot returned this year. After a successful relaunch with the remastered trilogy, it was only necessary to have Crash return back in September. Available on all major consoles, except for the Nintendo Switch. Crash 4 is also gaining multiple high ratings, it seems as if gamers haven’t lost any love for the Crash Bandicoot series.
Speculation is running high that another addition is in the works, with many gamers sensing teases within the end screen of Crash 4.
Not only is this particular title a platformer, but it also combines the viral game mode, battle royale. Inspired by such programs as ‘Takeshi’s Castle’, Fall Guys is the ultimate platformer game that can break a friendship. Push and shove your way through a sea of other Fall Guys in hopes to advance to the next round and eventually the crown.
Released a few months back, this particular title has many gamers excited to get a chance to play it. As of writing, Fall Guys is only available on the PlayStation & Steam. Set in a stunningly hand-drawn setting of the afterlife, Evergate is one to seek out and play if gamers haven’t already. This particular game is also accompanied by a live orchestra which beautifully helps to generate the game’s atmosphere. Clever puzzles that spread well with the environment and easy to learn gameplay, Evergate has pleasantly surprised gamers. Also on a side note, this game is also rather quick to complete too, a nice little charm within the gaming community.
This platform/puzzle-based game is playable on multiple platforms and was released back in August.
Raji: An Ancient Epic
Another platformer title that has the masses singing it’s praised. Gaining an overwhelming review score all around it’s easy to see why Raji is considered one of the best platformers to play. Ancient India is the game setting evolving around engaging stories of sibling bonds and mythological rivalries.
Accompanied by gorgeous visuals and neat mechanics throughout this game is high on gamers’ must playlist for 2020. Released on many platforms back in August. Not forgetting that Raji: An Ancient Epic is too very quick to complete, reportedly quicker than the aforementioned Evergate.
Mario 3D All-Stars
Although these games within the collection weren’t released in 2020, the collection itself was. It also symbolizes and celebrates a pinnacle moment in gaming history, the 35th anniversary of the most recognizable franchises in gaming history, Super Mario. Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy are all additions to the series that have created many memories for fans and to be able to replay them on a modern console is a nice feature for anyone’s Nintendo collection.
