New generation. New stories. New experiences.
Blooper Team recently revealed there new psychological horror game, The Medium. Being the developers behind Observer, the Layers of Fear series, and Blair Witch, Blooper Team has had their fair share in the horror gaming genre. Now they want to bring us into the next generation of game consoles with The Medium, a game that will be exclusive to the Series X and compatible PCs. Blooper Team wanted to create an “immersive horror cinematic experience” that was not possible on current-gen hardware. The ambition of The Medium is a tale of two worlds that will use new technology and techniques to deliver an immersive story experience.
The real world. The spirit world. The journey.
In an interview on the Series X May Inside Xbox, Blooper Team producer Jacek Zieba teased the story of The Medium. He explained how the game was taking place in 1980 Krakow Poland, which was a historically turbulent time for Poland. In the story of The Medium, you find your self playing a medium named Marianne. Her abilities give her visions and allow her to see into the hostile spirit world. Among all of Marianne’s haunting visions, the murder of a little girl affects her the most. She will go on a journey to creepy locations looking for answers to her visions and how they are connected to the little girl’s murder. Along the way, she will have to solve puzzles and brave the spirit world that is constantly affected by the anger, secrets, and urges of the real world. Only a medium can survive the spirit world and what lurks there.
Soundtrack, seamlessness, and immersion.
To help fuel this cinematic experience Blooper Team wanted not only one, but two amazing soundtracks for The Medium. They brought back Layers of Fear composer Arkadiusz Reikowski to do one of the soundtracks and Silent Hill 2 composer Akira Yamaoka to do the other. Blooper Team wants The Medium to have a Silent Hill atmosphere that will help bring these amazingly detailed and creepy locations to life. To power the detailed environments and create the immersion, The Medium will be optimized for the Series X. When the developers saw the horsepower of the Series X they knew they wanted to take advantage of all it had to offer. They knew The Medium and the experience they want to create just wasn’t possible on the Xbox One. Blooper wants a “seamless” experience with stable high frame rates, no loading screens, and using new techniques like Raytracing. The Medium will be exclusive to the Series X and compatible PCs making this Microsofts first next-gen exclusive.
