Sega plans to remake Yakuza a global brand by looking at Remastering and Remaking past titles in the series.
Sega recently released some exciting fiscal year results and features the game franchise “YAKUZA”. Listing it as one of the big franchises that they hope to become a global brand within in the next 3 years!
Strategy
One of the noticeable key strategies seems to be their games being made available to as many players as they can globally, which seems like a fantastic strategy.
“Yakuza: Like a dragon” launched on multiple consoles in January 2020 thus helping get the series to a whole new player base as well as engaging the original Yakuza fans.
Sequels
It seems going forward Sega’s plan is to launch around the world on the same date, starting with the “Lost Judgment” initially planned for September 24th 2021.
A noir-style detective story with action combat, “Lost Judgement” continues as a sequel to the spinoff “Judgement” from the Yakuza franchise released at the end of 2018.
Further releases
A further strategy Sega is looking at growing, is its brands via reboots being considered for several past titles either by remaking or remastering.
With the success of “The Yakuza: like a dragon”, a soft reboot with a new genre and its cast of characters. could this lead to them also considering remastering or remaking more past titles within the Yakuza series?
RGG Studios is no stranger to remakes with the original PlayStation 2 games being remade for the PlayStation 4.
RGG Studio’s openness about the possibility of remakes further fortifies these ideas. Especially with Daisuke Sato (Yakuza producer) stating a possibility of the spin-off titles (which never left Japan) remakes in an interview back in February of this year.
What ever the case maybe, I’m excited to see where these remakes take us and how much of a global brand the Yakuza series will be.
