Gotta Catch em All
Home to 150 (151 if you were lucky enough to attend a Nintendo event in Japan) Pokémon that reside in the Kanto Region. This is where we have the most memorable Pokémon in current standing. Charizard, Mewtwo, and how can we forget the mascot….Clefai – I mean, Pikachu!! Explore caves, oceans, and grass to catch and evolve all the Pokémon on a simple 8-bit cartridge.
Welcome to the Kanto Region
The Kanto Region is the home of Red and Blue. Multiple cities, caves, forests, and oceans make up this region. It is simple, travel from city to city to take on the Gym Leader Challenge with your rival Blue. Overseen my Professor Oak who can never remember his grandson name, you are tasked to explore the region. Smell ya later while collecting the eight gym badges and taking on the Elite Four.
Pokémon Bugs and not the Good Kind
With this being the first installment of the Pokémon series, there are bugs and things that make you question why they exist. One of the worst is trying to catch the legendary birds and Mewtwo. You see dear reader, said Pokémon have a chance of Poké ball throws missing (yes….MISSING). This is random and annoying. However it gets worse!!! The legendary 1/256 bug where there’s always a 1/256 chance of a move missing, even with 100% accuracy. It is based around programming logic that is to boring to share here.
Gyms and the Rival
You want to become the champion of the region? Go out and gather those eight badges like the Professor asked. Once completed, go to the Indigo Plateau and take on the Elite Four. Well congratulations, you take down the Elite Four. Go take the crown…..BUT WAIT!! Your rival is there one step before you. Go show that “Smell You Later” rival who the true champion is. There’s a reason why Blue is still one of the fan favorite rivals. This guy was a JERK.
Entering the Hall of Fame to Live on Forever
There isn’t much else to say about this game. This is the bare bone Pokémon game, but that doesn’t make this bad. This is what Pokémon today was built upon and some mechanics are still used to this day. A bag to hold items, Poké balls to catch Pokémon, the gym leaders, Elite Four, and a Professor who is named after a tree. Congratulations to Pokémon Red and Blue receiving a 7/10.
