The year 2021 is upon us and there are many games to get anticipated about. The arrival of next generation consoles are here too and now is the time for the next gen games to shine. With that, here is a selection of my most anticipated games for this year.
Hitman 3
The next instalment to one of the most deadliest series in gaming history is coming soon. As expected, many gamers are excited. With an assortment of weapons to use in amongst new settings with new targets, it’s hard to not be excited.
Of course, the main appeal to the Hitman series is the ability to execute the mission in anyway the player sees fit. Although I have my particular ways to handle these missions (stealth), the option to try a new approach is welcomed. Hitman 3 is scheduled to be released on the 20th of January.
Hogwarts Legacy
Although the creator of the Harry Potter universe is now deemed a controversial figure, there’s no doubt that this IP is a stroke of genius. Hogwarts Legacy is a title that combines two of my favourite aspects together, Harry Potter & RPG’s.
Nevertheless the game is set before when the books occur, it’s still the same universe. To be able to explore the hallowed halls of Hogwarts is a fans dream come true. Also add in the fact that players must craft their magic skills to combat enemies shall spice up the magic even more. Even though there isn’t an official release date, it is slated for 2021.
Back 4 Blood
The developers behind the famous Left 4 Dead series is back with what is being deemed as the series spiritual successor, Back 4 Blood. The four survivor team format that gamers have fallen in love with is sure to create some fresh new memories for groups of friends.
The Left 4 Dead series has created some fond memories of my teenage years and World War Z has been a brilliant filler for the past few years.
However, it’ll be interesting to see if the developers can also reignite the charm that has made the series famous. Back 4 Blood is due to be released on June 22nd.
Far Cry 6
Quite possibly my most anticipated game for 2021 is Far Cry 6. Even though Far Cry 5 & New Dawn were fun to play, they both lacked one specific feature that makes Far Cry successful. I’m referring to the protagonist not having any depth to their character, i.e no voice or even a name.
Nevertheless, the gameplay and controls for each Far Cry title has been pure fun and immersive. Added on top the guaranteed more likeable protagonist, awesome antagonist and gripping environment.
What this concoction makes is a game of the year contender in my eyes. Far Cry 6 is slated for a possible 2021 release date.
Dying Light 2
Although I haven’t necessarily been following this title as closely as I have with other games, I love the predecessor. Dying Light is the hybrid of genres, parkour & zombie apocalypse.
Not only is the gameplay slick and fun beyond belief, it can be scary too. Many times I’ve been stuck in the middle of an area that’s infested with zombies, with no hope in sight. However, thanks to the intuitive mechanics escaping is more possible than having to fight.
Of course, escape is only possible if a players skills is crisp enough. Dying Light 2 is slated for a 2021 release date.
Humankind
The 4x game series is one that many players can either find difficult to comprehend or too slow paced. However, it’s a personal favourite genre of mine as it forces the brain to function moreso than a generic FPS title. Strategic planning and having to consider consequences for actions is key for the 4x genre.
With Humankind it’s visually comparable to Sid Meier’s Civilization series, which is another series I adore. Implementing religious beliefs and leaders ideology to emerge as victor over other civilization’s is a daunting but rewarding task. Humankind is scheduled to be released in April.
Resident Evil: Village
After the highly successful Resident Evil 7, village once again continues the story revolving around Mia & Ethan. The reason they’re in the village and what exactly has gone down isn’t fully clear as of yet. However, if it’s anything like RE7, it’ll be one eerie experience with many tense moments.
Also throw in the fact that Chris Redfield is back only increases the excitement heavily. Resident Evil is set to be released in 2021.
Stray
As an animal lover I was overwhelmed with the will to play Stray. Set in a somewhat cyberpunk world that has been overturned by robots, the player takes the role of a stray cat. As far as I can tell, the objective is to assist the cat to go home, whilst uncovering the history of the surroundings and those within.
Cats are my favourite animals and I have already pegged this title to be a day one purchase. Not only this, my wife is too interested in Stray, much like Hogwarts Legacy as well. Stray is set to be released in 2021.
My List For My Most Anticipated Games For 2021
These titles are only a select bunch of games that I am personally excited for, there are many others to select. However, the listed few are the games that I’m most interested & excited to play.
