My First Impressions of VR Using Oculus Rift S
So I watched a few people talk very highly about VR but I was never quite ready to invest. That was until Jeepers Reviews from BG4G Hub Made some content for the site about VR. He was kind enough to help me make my decision to jump into VR for the first time. He suggested I purchase the Oculus Rift S because of the high value for the price. You get inside out tracking and touch controllers for the $400 US asking price. By the way, inside out tracking requires zero light houses and uses the cameras on the headset to track your movement. Which is amazing for small rooms and quick setup.
So around November I decided to purchase my first real VR headset. I found a Black Friday sale that would save me $50 and went to Best Buy. Got home and I could not wait to set it and play. I have 1080Ti graphics card so I knew my PC would run fine. Oculus suggests using at least a 1060 Graphics card from Nvidia. After updating drivers and Installing Oculus, I was ready to have my mind blown!
I can tell you I was not ready for what I was about to Experience. As soon as you put on the headset for the first time, Oculus guides you though learning the controls through a fun demo of sorts. Immediately I realized I had been missing out all these years. When I looked down and saw a pair of Virtual Reality hands in the VR world moving when I moved my hands! I could even close and open my hands and move fingers around. This was way more than I expected for sure. Then, I booted up Vader Immortal and had the time of my life! I was deflecting blaster bolts and killing robots with my light saber in no time. Seeing a light saber and hearing the sounds in VR is really something to behold. It feels more realistic than any game I have ever played on a TV or monitor.
In closing, VR is an exceptional experience with hundreds of titles to check out. I am just getting started with VR and I cannot wait to live stream and make more VR content. The Oculus Rift S was an amazing buy for me and I think any gamer will have a blast playing in VR. I think the future looks bright for VR and AR game mechanics. I only want to spread that joy I felt when I first tried it to other people and have them spread the word as well. Sorry guys I have to get back in VR, For I have Zombies to slay and robots to destroy!
