GHOSTS N GOBLINS RESURRECTION
Anyone who knows me knows that Ghouls n Ghosts or Ghosts n Goblins is probably my all time favourite game series. With that said Resurrection has been available on the Nintendo Switch since the 25th February 2021 but of course now the game is released on all platforms since the 1st of June 2021. So with that said naturally I bought the game on release date for the xbox one. So is it as good as all the other versions from the A day of gaming that been the likes of the SNES, Megadrive, even a reboot on the PSP named Ultimate Ghosts ‘n Goblins. Well lets find out with my review of Ghosts n Goblins Resurrection.
GAMEPLAY AND STORY
As most story’s in the series its pretty basic rescue the Princess from the hords of baddies throughout the game to ultimately face Satan himself. With that said it’s not going to be easy as with all Ghosts n Goblins, Ghouls n Ghosts games. This will require two playthroughs to face the main boss of the game. There are four difficulties the game can be played on. Page been the easiest with unlimited respawns making the playthrough somewhat easy but you won’t unlock the shadow levels which is the second playthrough. Think of it as a training ground for the higher difficulties which are Squire, Knight and Legend. Legend been the most difficult. With Squire you can get hit more than the other too difficulty settings. Basically everytime your hit you will loose one peace of armour until your in your boxers before the next hit resulting in your death. Knight and Legend difficulties are old school two hits and your dead. Unlike most GNGs games there are also checkpoints making the adventure more forgivening and the game saves so unlike previous games you don’t need to complete in one go. Another addition to GNGs Resurrection is a skill tree which is used to upgrade your abilities to help get you through the game. Collecting Umbrel beas enables you to buy power ups or magic. Good luck finding them all as there’s alot more to collect in the second playthrough. The second playthrough is alot tougher than the first with redesigned levels shifting up the gameplay for a new experience never seems in a GNGs game before.
GRAPHICS AND SOUND
Graphically the game looks amazing with hand drawn graphics taking away the once sightly pixilated look of previous title’s. All the levels are what you would expect to see in GNGs and look familiar to what your used to to. This installment as kept the game close to its heart with the art style. Level design is also very familiar more so from the megadrive and other versions with only a couple of levels making it from the best Ghouls n Ghosts on the Super Nintendo in my opinion.
Audio is top notch with crisp music also from previous versions of the game making it a very recognisable environment to be in if your a GNGs fan or played other versions.
Ghosts n Goblins Resurrection is a must buy for veterans of the series and new comers alike. This as been one of my most anticipated games and it does not disappoint. With the gameplay kept to its original form with no double jump you will have to play super ghouls n ghosts for that. This is a welcome addition to the series and one of the best. Even when you die you get the option to lower the difficulty but you won’t see that proper ending and if you made it to the second playthrough just keep trying without lowing as you’ve made it this far.
Ghosts n Goblins Resurrection gets a well deserved 9 out of 10 for nostalgia and keeping the gameplay to its original form.
